The Center for Applied Social and Economic Research (CASER) at NYU Shanghai, established on November 19, 2020, is dedicated to fostering methodologically rigorous, multi-disciplinary research on the most pressing issues related to China’s socioeconomic development. CASER now seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow to work on research projects in China related to longitudinal data collection and analysis
Salary is internationally competitive and commensurate with experience. The position will start Sept 1, 2021, for an initial appointment of two years, renewable, subject to mutual agreement. The appointment start date for non-Chinese applicants depends on the progress of the work permit application. The successful candidate is expected to become an active member of the Center’s research team, led by the Center Director (Prof. Xiaogang Wu), to work with other team members to coordinate the Center’s newly launched project, the Shanghai Early Childhood and Education Survey (SEEDS), including data collection, cleaning, documentation, and archiving. The candidate will also have access to the Center’s urban household panel survey data, such as “Hong Kong Panel Study of Social Dynamics [HKPSSD] and Shanghai Urban Neighborhood Survey [SUNS]), to pursue their own professional development in research on relevant themes.
Qualifications
Candidates should have an excellent academic background (Ph.D. degree) in quantitative social science or closely related fields, including demonstrated expertise in survey and experiment research design, advanced techniques of statistical data analysis for longitudinal, multilevel, and cross-nationally comparative data. Research interests and experience in working with early childhood education and development are a plus. Prior publications in peer-reviewed journals in English will be particularly welcome.
