NACSA 2016 Annual Conference Call for Papers


The 2016 NACSA Annual Conference will be held on August 19th in Seattle, Washington, preceding the Annual Meeting of the American Sociological Association on August 20‐23. The program committee (Xiaoling Shu, Feinian Chen, and Yuping Zhang) welcome submissions on topics of interest to our membership. Papers offering comparative perspectives on the themes of the conference are also welcome. The committee is particularly interested in papers on these topics:

1. Marriage and the Family

2. Environment and Health

3. Gender and Sexuality

4. Governance and Civil Society

5. Migration, Urbanization, and Development

6. Culture and the Media

7. Education

8. Stratification, Inequalities and Poverty

9. Open Topic

Both complete papers and paper abstracts will be considered. Paper abstracts may be 1‐2 pages, but must contain sufficient detail to suggest timely completion. Papers to be presented at the ASA are eligible for submission. Provide all authors’ names, organizational affiliations, and email addresses. We welcome submissions of papers in Chinese or English from all scholars, researchers, and graduate students working on or interested in China and the Chinese diaspora. The plan is to have eight sessions convened in a two‐concurrent‐session format, and one plenary session in the afternoon toward the end of the conference.

May 1, 2016: Submission deadline.

June 1, 2016: Formal acceptance letters distributed for visa applications.

July 8, 2016: Provisional program available on the NACSA website.

Aug. 1, 2016: Full papers due to organizers/presiders/discussants.

NACSA 2016 Student Paper Award Submission Information: Deadline: July 8, 2016.

Papers (1) authored by student(s) only, (2) in English, and (3) to be presented at the 2016 NACSA Conference are eligible for the competition. Student status must be valid as of the end of Spring 2016. Only complete papers will be considered. Please mark *Student Paper Award* in the Subject Area when submitting online https://cmt.research.microsoft.com/NACSA2016/.

The Outstanding Student Paper Award Committee consists of Dr. Emily Hannum (Chair), Dr. Reza Hasmath and Dr. Hua‐Yu Sebastian Cherng. One paper (published or unpublished) will be selected and the award will be announced and presented with a plaque at the annual banquet.
