Since its establishment in 1991, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has positioned itself as an international university which emphasizes on both teaching and research. Over the years, HKUST has been making strides progressively in education, research, knowledge transfer, and community services. Leveraging on the academic leadership in higher education and impending development of China’s innovation-driven Greater Bay Area (GBA), HKUST welcomes the opportunity to establish a new campus in Guangzhou (GZ), Mainland China.
The Ministry of Education of People’s Republic of China officially approved the preparatory status of HKUST (GZ) in September 2019. Preparatory work on areas such as academic planning, institutional structure, and campus development for HKUST (GZ) is underway. Located in Qingsheng, Nansha in Guangzhou, HKUST (GZ) covers 1.13 square kilometers. The first phase of construction of the GZ campus is expected to be completed in 2022. At steady state, the number of undergraduate and postgraduate students will reach a total of 10,000.
The intended areas of focus in the GZ Campus will be thematic and cross-disciplinary in nature, synergistic with HKUST without overlapping academic degrees or structures. 4 Academic Hubs with 16 Thrust Areas are being planned:

The University now starts to invite applications or nominations for faculty openings at all levels at Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor ranks of the above-mentioned Thrust Areas. Details on the ranks and number of positions available may change as the Thrust Areas are being developed.
In the initial stage of the campus development, senior academics (Professors and Associate Professors) with experience in cross disciplinary curriculum and program design are encouraged to apply. The leaders in each Thrust Area will work closely with colleagues at the Clearwater Bay campus to prepare for the full operation of the new campus.
Successful candidates will contribute to initially teaching postgraduate courses and supervision of postgraduate students. Applicants must have a PhD degree and a publication record with international impact. Senior academics should have proven teaching commitment and performance, experience and readiness in administrative matters, and demonstrated service to the academic community and/or the public.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service
Salary is highly competitive of international standard and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Generous research funds, ample laboratory space and excellent research equipment and support will be provided.
All posts are tenure-track Mainland China appointments to be offered by the HKUST Mainland entity in accordance with the local employment laws and regulations. Appointment to Professor rank and some Associate Professor rank will be made on substantive basis while initial appointment to other tenure-track faculty ranks will be made on a fixed-term contract of up to three years commencing the earliest in July/August 2020. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to performance, mutual agreement and funding availability.
